A snap from the radio interview I did with Chennai Live radio station in July about the book.

I lived for 5 years in Chennai and after 6 years I came back in June for my next “Chennai-adventure”. The book is easy to read and describes very well the obstacles expats may face when they come to Chennai the 1st time. After having read the book, the start in Chennai will definitely be much easier. I highly recommend the book.

If only such a book existed before I first arrived in Chennai! Having lived there for a year myself, so many of the passages and advice chime perfectly with my experience of living in the city. For a foreigner new to Chennai, it’s pretty much stocked full of all the kinds of things that you need to know about but would’ve had no idea who, how, or what to ask. A really enjoyable read as well, and totally up to date throughout, so all in all couldn’t ask for more!

I’m really enjoying dipping in and out of this book as I enter my 3rd month in Chennai. The stories of expat experiences are particularly great; they are funny and give a great snippets of what it’s like to move to Chennai. I keep on finding myself in situations where I can relate to something in the book!

What a really fun book! I visited Chennai recently and the book captures the place well. Peter’s advice is invaluable especially for a newbie to India. Highly recommended.

  5. Rated 5 out of 5

This book captures the essence of what it means to be an expat in Chennai. Having spent 2.5 years there, this is quite the accurate representation of what to expect and Peter frames it in an simple and easy-to-read format. Bravo!

Loved it! Even for non-expats like me, this book is an enjoyable read. Presents a wonderful perspective on things which many of us Indians sometimes are completely oblivious to. It is full of funny anecdotes which gives it a travelogue-like flavour. Does list out a lot of relevant information for any new visitor to Chennai which would be immensely helpful given how opaque everything here tends to be. Captures the pulse of Chennai!

I wish this book was available when I first arrived in Chennai. At the time, there was little info available online and the travel guides were outdated or too succinct. The Chennai expat guide, lives up to its title and will give any new expat a good understanding of how things work. I have met the Author of the book, he is an hilarious storyteller and I think that came through in the book.

I read this back in Blighty after living in Chennai for just under 3 years. It’s a frank, funny and highly readable introduction to the city which I’d definitely recommend anyone planning on living in Chennai reads before getting on the plane. It’s also great to refer to once you’re in Chennai, with information and advice that, unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way.

Great book Peter, why didn’t you write it sooner?

What a great book! I will move to Chennai next Summer for a 4-year assignment. I really have the feeling to be fully prepared after reading this Chennai Expat Guide. Very pleasantly written and full of anecdotes and detailed information. This is a must read for anyone moving to Chennai! Thank you, Peter!
